FTP is an abbreviation for File Transfer Protocol – a very popular method of uploading and downloading web files between a computer system and a web server. With an FTP client program like CuteFTP or FileZilla, you can make a connection to the server and view its content in one pane, while the files on your PC will be shown in another pane within the program window. All you have to do to send files or entire directories in either direction is to mark them and then to drag them from one pane to the other. File Transfer Protocol is preferred by plenty of users because you can create different FTP accounts and each one can be restricted to access just one single folder on the server, so a designer, for instance, can fulfill their task without being able to view any other content in your web hosting account. Furthermore, the availability of different FTP accounts will also allow you to build numerous sites with web design apps like FrontPage or Dreamweaver and to upload them to their respective folders on the server.
